How Qur'an Preservation Works: The 5-Step Conservation Process
From condition assessment to structural binding repair, learn how our five-step method extends the usable lifespan of community Masaahif.

Preserving sacred texts requires technical care, quality archival materials, and deep respect for the Qur'an. Our approach follows an established 5-step framework designed to evaluate, restore, and maintain copies in community collections.
Step 1: Systematic Condition Assessment
The process begins by examining each Mushaf. Field teams assess structural integrity, binding tightness, page completeness, legibility, and environmental damage.
Volumes are cataloged to determine whether they require light reinforcement, comprehensive spine restoration, or responsible replacement.
Step 2 & 3: Respectful Repair and Rigorous Review
During repair, archival-grade, acid-free papers and bookbinding threads are applied. Detached pages are carefully re-hinged, and worn covers are strengthened with protective cloth backing.
Once repair is complete, each volume undergoes review to verify textual accuracy, complete page order, and structural durability.
Step 4 & 5: Community Preservation Guidance and Responsible Replacement
Preservation extends beyond the workbench. Local teachers and custodians receive guidance on elevated storage, humidity mitigation, and proper handling.
If a copy is determined to be beyond physical preservation, respectful replacement is coordinated to prevent any gap in student learning.
“By following a structured conservation standard, community learning spaces can keep sacred texts in active service for years to come.”
